Bout Time Apple Pie

What do you get a guy that cleans out the fridge and cleans the oven without being asked on his day off?  His favorite dessert of course!

Sadly, even though we've been married 4 years, I've never made him one of his favorite desserts: apple pie.  Of course, I've filled his belly with plenty of other homemade goods, but I never dared make a pie because it seemed too hard and not worth the effort (e.g. I don't really care for them).

However, my awesome friend Yesenia got me a food processor to make homemade baby food and I saw an easy way to make pie crusts using your food processor so I decided to give it a whirl.

I also found an easy apple pie filling that uses apple sauce.  It appeared as though the stars had aligned.

I actually like it and so does Claudy, but after a little prodding he says it's too applesauce-y.  I think I rolled the crust too thin, but I still like the crust recipe.  I had really wanted to try a lattice pattern and the crunch top, but the babe would not nap!  Next time!

I hope Claudy liked the pie, at least knowing that I made it special for him, because he does so many sweet things for me that he deserved a sweet treat too.

Here's the filling recipe, and here's the crust recipe (it's towards the bottom of the page).

Now that I am open to pies, let me know your favorite pie recipes.  It's like opening up a new baking world!

Good job! I don't like pie much either and only make it on Thanksgiving. Also, I (embarrassingly) buy the rolled up premade pie crusts. It's really the only thing I don't make homemade. I just hate making pie crust and it's never as good as the boughten anyway. Maybe I should try your recipe...
